Thebeerandwineguy talks Super Bowl Ad

I watched the Super Bowl, and I saw the Budweiser commercial that made fun of the Craft Beer scene. Unlike many, I found it to be funny, in fact I found it to be very funny!

I was not surprised when my social media feeds started blowing up with people in my circles who are craft beer loyalists. I was also not surprised when this morning the reactions to all the commercials on the morning shows on TV and radio, not one mention to this ad. Not. A. Single. One.

The only people who cared about that commercial are a few of the craft beer drinkers. I have been reading that “Shots have been fired”, and even read a good article by Jim Vorel, but he said Bud is praying that the consumer is ignorant.

I feel that the beer giant InBev did a great job with this AD, and here is why. It was funny. It poked fun at craft beer and all the “hipsters” that like craft beer. If you can’t take a little teasing from time to time, get over yourself. It made fun of themselves, hell, they all but had #basicbitches at the bottom of the screen.

In reality, Bud knows they are not going to get someone who drinks craft to cross back over to drink their product. The person they are reaching out to are those young folks who have not figured out what their beer drinking identity is yet. The frat boys that are getting ready to ditch their Natty ways and hit the next level in the beer world.

They are also reaffirming who they are to your uncle that likes to tease you about your sissy beer, and quantifies his life with 24 packs and double wides. He isn’t aware that people are making fun of him when they yell ‘Murica and “that thing got a hemi”, he just thinks he started a trend.

No, even though they sell beer to the simpletons of our society, these Macro-Boys are not dummies. They know you and I will never drink their beer again. Their marketing was not taking shots at you. It’s was aimed at your 21 year old cousin, son of the redneck. So, if you want to take offense, do not jump on twitter and start a war of words. Just go pick up that 21 year old cousin and take him to your favorite local brewery and let him talk to the real American working hard to grow a small business and let him see what that tastes like.
