We have a lot of fun here at Space City Nerd, but we also like to mix doing good with the fun things that we do. You may have heard us talk about Extra Life or have even helped us with the event last year. What’s Extra Life you ask? Think about running a 5K for charity. You know, the one where you have your friends and family donate to a great cause for you to run. Now replace running with 24 hours of video games! It’s not as easy as it looks.
This year, SCN committed to raising a cool $1,000 for Texas Children’s Hospital. One hundred percent of all the money raised will go to the TCH charity care. And we need every bit of help.
How can you help? There are two ways!

Hold up! There’s more to this than playing games for 24 hours! Last year we held a 24 hour stream with indie developers jumping on and chatting with us, breweries providing us with liquid courage, and Nobi Pub providing much needed energy in terms of delicious food. This year we plan to do the same on a bigger scale, stay tuned for all the details! Also, this year’s top donor to the Space City Nerd team will receive a copy of the iconic Superman #204 signed by Jim Lee among other prizes.
- In addition, we plan on doing something special for every fundraising milestone. To show our appreciation, we will do something special on our marathon stream.
- If we raise $1,000 for Extra Life, you will all receive our heartfelt thank you. Remember, you’re not doing this for us; you are doing this for children in need.
- At the $1,750 mark, we will break out the dance pad and play some strip Street Fighter on the stream. For every loss, the loser loses a piece of clothing.
- If we raise $2,500, the SCN crew will each have a can of Mountain Dew Gamer Fuel from Halo 3. Please note, that this was released in 2007.
- Granted that our stomachs survive the onslaught of that Mountain Dew and we raise $3,500, we will drink a 10 year old can of King Cobra malt liquor.
- Lastly, if we raise $4,000, we will release the 2015 SCN Gamer calendar, featuring each of us on every month. It will be hot and steamy… a different kind of hot and steamy than your average LAN party.
With all that aside, we are doing this to raise money to help our local Children’s Miracle Network hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital. This money doesn’t go to the employees or to any overhead.
