Thebeerandwineguy Drinks: Alexander Valley Vineyard

I am sure the AVV team does a great job of making friends wherever they sell their wines. It would not be hard to do with this group, but here in the Space City, there is a special bond with these folks.  I have had the pleasure of meeting and dealing with this winery staff from Hank down to the local rep, and I cannot speak too much more highly of these folks or you might think I was being paid. So, we will now move onto the cool collection of Zinfandels they produce. The weekend of Zins, so that you can have Temptation on Friday, Sin Saturday, and Redemption on Sunday.

Temptation Zin (2012)

Score: 87

This is an easily approachable Zinfandel. I caught a little plum and some spice aromas. It was nice and brought me a taste of dried cherry and a hint of vanilla. It is a solid wine that easily stands on its own, but is also great for the person looking to get introduced to a life of Zin.

Sin Zin (2012)

Score: 89

This is more of your classic Zin style. You get the spice, the deep dark fruit, and the pepper right away on the nose. This is a little more rich than the first one, but it also has a longer more structured finish of black cherry, spice, and a hint of chocolate. If you don’t like this, you don’t like Zinfandel. This is a winner all day, every day, and twice with BBQ!

Redemption Zin (2012)

Score: 92

Kevin Hall, the winemaker, knocked it out of the park with this one! This is the modern Zin in all of its glory. I get a fruit cocktail of berry aroma laced with vanilla. I taste some blueberry, and pinch of pepper. This wine is big, lush, and sat with me so long I felt like I could charge it rent. This is my style of Zin right here. At under $30, this is a bargain too!

On a little foot note. I happened to run into Kevin Hall at an event after I wrote this and just before it published, so we snapped a pic to add into the mix. A great guy as always.
