Thebeerandwineguy Drinks: Odell Brewing Company

If I get one more person tell me they don’t drink Odell Brewing because “isn’t that the non-alcoholic stuff”… I just may face palm and walk away. One of the older craft brewers on the scene, this brewery has grown organically. It was almost a decade before they started bottling their beer! Currently you can find their beers in in states along the Rocky Mountains and as far west Arizona and Missouri in the east, and some distribution in the UK. Honestly, this is the type of brewery that the craft beer movement is built on, and if you have not tried their beer, you should move them way up the list of breweries to try.

59er Amber Ale     8.8

ABV: 5.2%

IBU: n/a

This is a very nice beer with little notes of fruit on the front end, and finished surprisingly smooth and dry. They bottle conditioned with Brett and while most professional brewers are not ready to tackle Brettanomyces, these folks made it their bitch. Really shows off how mature this team is in the brew making process.

Isolation Winter Ale     9.3

ABV: 6.1%

IBU: 29

Too often seasonal selections are good, not great. This beer begs to differ and is ready to break down preconcieved notions. Just because this is a great winter warmer with a beautiful amber color, malty nose, and zero bitterness, it is NOT a Christmas Ale so take your potpourri loving butt down the road if you are pouring this beer out because it does not have enough “flavor”.

Mountain Standard Double Black IPA     8.8

ABV: 9.5%

IBU: 60

Pours with a nice tan head. I was surprised at how dank the nose was for as dark as it is, I was expecting more fruit and malt. That hits you more on the pallet. All of the ingredients for this beer are from Colorado. How much more responsible can you get? Are the beer commercials trying to subconsciously tell us to drink this beer by saying drink responsibly at the end? If so, they got me! I could sit back with a bucket of PB&J Wings from Hay Merchant and 2 of these beers and call it a great day.

Myrcenary Double IPA      9.5

ABV: 9.3%

IBU: 80

If you are not familiar with this beer, please introduce yourself.  This is a world-class beer and is readily available. It pours a beautiful golden color with a floral bouquet. The hops hit you at the beginning and it gets creamy, and then finishes very well balanced. I understand the “Whale  Chasers” in the beer community, but it is hard for me to fathom the idea of chasing an Orca when you have a majestic Humpback in your back yard.
